korean spicy pork bulgogi

Recently I had this thing for Korean food. I am not sure why but I really crave the combination of spicy and sweet.

I wanted to cook pork today, and since I had all the ingredients I needed and some time to fiddle around in the kitchen, I made this dish.
Many Korean dishes are actually quite easy to cook. The actual cooking time for this dish was about 5-8 minutes as it is basically a stir-fry. It was the marinating that took a bit longer.

So, as long as you can organise your time so that you marinate the meat a few hours earlier, it is a great dish to cook for dinner.

To start, marinate the pork with minced garlic, gochujang, spicy bulgogi marinade and Korean sesame oil.
Add salt and minced garlic.
Mix everything together and placed this in the fridge to marinate for a couple of hours.

To cook, saute some sliced onions in heated vegetable oil in a skillet.
Once the onions had softened a little, push them to the edges of the skillet. Add the pork to the middle of the skillet..
Use a spatula or wooden spoon to spread the pork out as much as possible and cook, undisturbed for 1-2 minutes. Flip the pork over and cook a further 1-2 minutes.
Stir to combine the pork and onions. Add red pepper powder.
Add roasted sesame seeds and black pepper and stir to combine.
Serve immediately with rice.
But it was just as good when it was cold, and eaten on its own!

RECIPE
Korean Spicy Pork Bulgogi (Serves 4-6)

Ingredients:
500g pork, sliced
1/2 onion, thinly sliced
1 tablespoon gochujang
1-2 tablespoons spicy bulgogi marinade
1 teaspoon Korean sesame oil - or use normal sesame oil if you do not have this
1-2 teaspoon Korean red pepper powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoon minced garlic
1 teaspoon sesame seeds (optional)
1 tablespoon vegetable oil

Method:
1. Marinate pork with gochujang, spicy bulgogi marinade, sesame oil, minced garlic and salt. Set aside for about 2 hours (in the fridge).
2. To cook, saute some sliced onions in heated vegetable oil in a skillet.
3. Once the onions had softened a little, push them to the edges of the skillet. Add the pork to the middle of the skillet..
4. Use a spatula or wooden spoon to spread the pork out as much as possible and cook, undisturbed for 1-2 minutes. Flip the pork over and cook a further 1-2 minutes.
5. Stir to combine the pork and onions. Add red pepper powder.
6. Add roasted sesame seeds and black pepper and stir until well-combined.
7. Serve immediately with rice.
