strawberry shortcake popsicles | a review of tovolo star pop molds

It is no secret that I am a HUGE fan of Tovolo products.

From tools for prepping to cooking to baking to (YES!) making frozen products, Tovolo makes some of  the most user-friendly and durable tools I have ever used. Best of all, because their products are so pretty, you can now prep/cook/bake in style!

When the very nice people at Tovolo contacted me to review their popsicle molds, I was more than happy to do so.
Because you see, my kids - and I am sure yours too - LOVE popsicles and I have discovered that if I were to make the popsicles myself, I have 100% control over what goes (or does not go) into the popsicles I feed them.

Not that I love being a control freak (although I am some times), this simply means I can reduce the amount of sugar Aden and Jadelyn consume (yay!), ensure that they eat more fruit (yay!) and mix and match so many flavours that I can be as creative as I want (yay! and yay!)!

While making popsicle is fun, I have to admit that after having tried Tovolo's pop molds, I wondered why-oh-why had I persisted with my old pop molds for so long! I spent so much time fiddling with the mold, and the sticks that had to be inserted just-so in order not to end up with lop-sided popsicles, and popsicles that were a nightmare to unmold. In addition, since the sticks are part of the cover for the mold, there is no need to purchase extra sticks to make the popsicles!
Today I am sharing two recipes - the first being a recipe for Strawberry Shortcake Popsicles. Strawberries are now in season and I have bought punnets of the fruit. I have also included tips on how to store strawberries so you can buy them while they are cheap and store them to use later on when prices have gone back up again.

The second recipe, for a Blueberry Basil Martini Pop, which you can find here, is obviously meant for adults. These are great for informal parties - maybe your next barbeque party? - and are easy to make, to serve and to eat!

Here are the instructions for making the Strawberry Shortcake Popsicles.

First, hull and puree the strawberries in a blender. Set this aside.

Note: If your strawberries are not sweet, you may need to add some sugar (a tablespoon at a time) and taste as you go along.
In a food processor, blitz the vanilla (or golden) Oreos.
If you do not have a food processor, simply place the Oreos in a ziplock bag and crush them with a rolling pin.

Add the crushed Oreos to the vanilla yogurt and fold to combine.
The Tovolo pop molds come with a stand and the molds fit nicely onto the stand so everything is straight and upright.
Fill one-third of the molds with the yogurt mixture.
Cover with the lids and freeze for 30 minutes.
Fill another one-third of the molds with the pureed strawberries.
Cover with the lids and freeze for another 30 minutes.

Fill the molds with the yogurt mixture. Cover and freeze for 3-4 hours, or until the mixture becomes completely frozen.
To unmold, place the popsicle mold under tap water for a minute to loosen the sides then carefully pull the popsicle out of the mold.
Enjoy!
